On Wednesday 12th April our tenants and learners participated in a drama taster workshop delivered by ACTA Theatre.

Working with people who would not normally engage with theatre, the workshop focussed on improving communication and employability skills. ACTA are looking for people interested in creating a new show with the aim to perform as part of REACT Refugee Festival on in March 2018. Following the success of the workshop we’re thrilled to be invited to watch their summer performances.

The morning started with quick improvisation icebreaker activities where we saw a scarf turn into the likes of a guitar, a football, a baby, and a violin! We saw people’s proudest moments coming to life including passing a driving theory test, winning a football tournament and being granted refugee status. The workshop then ended with four scenes of a play being imagined up and performed! Here’s what one tenant had to say about his experience:

“Although I have never done acting before, however, I was so enthusiastic about that. And I was like yes I can do it! The most interesting thing for me was: sharing ideas to make a character I really loved it. I'll be pleased to do it again.” Ammar
