At an exciting awards ceremony last week we were delighted to be highly commended for our #rethinkingrefugee campaign at the UK Housing Awards 2017 in the Oustanding Campaign of the Year category.
These awards, which recognise outstanding work by housing organisations to improve the lives of people in their communities, are organised by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) and Inside Housing magazine. It was great to be nominated, and this result clearly shows that people are seeing the results of our work and how important an issue this is.
The campaign began in August 2015 as a reaction to the negative portrayal of refugees in the media. Its aim was to change the perceptions of refugees. And whilst it’s great to be recognised for this, our work is by no means done! Rest assured, we will continue to work tirelessly get employers, the media and the general public to rethink refugees as assets to businesses and local communities.
The award was won by Northern Ireland Housing Executive for their “Changing lives, building communities” campaign on the transformation and removal of Belfast’s infamous peace walls. We fully support all forms of integration within communities and would like to congratulate them on their work. You can learn more about their campaign here
